Founding Organizations

The Impact & Prosperity Epicenter was created through a collaboration between the Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity—home of Prosperity U—and the Sorenson Impact Institute. As the Epicenter’s founding organizations, both are housed in the building and offer student programming, internships, and hands-on learning opportunities that connect students with new ideas, practical experience, and meaningful work in Utah and around the world.

Prosperity U

Prosperity U is the student-facing initiative of the University of Utah’s Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity, founded by Bob and Lynette Gay. It brings students together through events, service, leadership opportunities, global experiences, internships, and collaborative programs that extend learning beyond the classroom.

At the heart of its work is a broad view of prosperity—one that includes healthy people, thriving communities, meaningful work, and opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential. Prosperity U connects students from every major with new perspectives, practical experiences, and people working to help communities flourish.

Sorenson Impact Institute

Originally founded in 2001 as the nation’s first student-run venture fund and endowed by pioneering impact investor Jim Sorenson in 2013, the Sorenson Impact Institute has grown into a leading multidisciplinary impact institute. It works to expand the market for impact investing and equip the next generation of impact leaders through applied research, thought leadership, academic programming, internships, and experiential learning.

Students have opportunities to develop practical skills while contributing to work that spans sectors, disciplines, and communities. Through its programs and partnerships, the Institute prepares emerging leaders to make impact an integral part of how organizations invest, operate, and address complex challenges.
